On the occasion of the 1700th year of the Council of Nicaea, a significant book titled Nicaea I at 1700: Remembering the Council, Renewing the Faith was released by Fr. Pathiaraj Rayappan, Rector of DBTC, Kavarapettai. The release took place during the Theological Symposium organised by Don Bosco Theological Centre, Kavarapettai on the theme “Nicaea 325: Legacy and Relevance”, which served as a rich forum for theological reflection and dialogue.
The newly released book, edited by Fr. Vincent Bosco SDB and Fr. Stanley Jayakumar SDB, and published by ISPCK, is a scholarly contribution that brings together a series of profound articles exploring the theological, ecumenical, sacramental, historical, and philosophical dimensions of the Nicene Council. The book delves into topics such as the Post-Nicene period of the Church in Asia Minor in the 4th century, the Philosophical background of the Nicene Creed, Newman’s perspective on the Arian controversy, the Islam-Christian theological debate on Nicene doctrine, the role of Nicaea in shaping the Biblical Canon, the refutation of Arian heresy by the Fathers of the Church, the sacramental dimension of Nicaea, and Arius’ interpretation of Origen.
The book release took place during the closing session of the symposium, in the presence of theologians, professors, students, and invited guests. The occasion symbolized the scholarly spirit of the event and highlighted the ongoing relevance of the Nicene Creed in shaping Christian identity and faith today. The book launch made a meaningful contribution to the Church’s commemoration of the 1700th anniversary of the First Ecumenical Council.
